The reason for Parking restrictions On City of Montreal streets

Yesterday when i came into work, I went through my usual morning ritual of finding a parking space where I would not have to pay, usually on Bernard, Jeanne Mance or The thrid world esplanade. The closer to Park the better....I dont like to walk too much in the mornings....

I get to Jeanne Mance just off Bernard knowing that on thursdays There are Parking restrictions between 9am and 10am, so I look for a spot on the other side of the street, and there is one, but at the same time i notice that the street sweeper has passed...how do i know? Well the clues are the wet markings and sweep markings made by the cleaning machine, as well as other cars that have perceived the same thing as myself and parked on the recently swept street. The Best clue was seeing the street sweeper at the far end of Jeanne Mance finishing off it's work!

I decided to park on the cleaned side of the street and went to work.

Now....the reason for the parking restrictions on city streets are for maintainance purposes. To have the most effective use of the street sweeper, the street needs to be completely devoid of cars. Hence the parking restrictions. Once the sweeper has gone by, the restrictions no longer apply as their purpose has been fulfilled. Ticketing an automobile parked on a street that has just been swept (even though there is still time left in the parking restrictions) is simply A TAX GRAB FOR THE VILLE DE MONTREAL! And unneccessary!

When i went to my car at the end of the work day, I had a ticket. I parked at 9:10am and was ticketed at 9:15am. as well as several other cars.

I will contest this ticket, and I hope the others will as well. This is not enforcement, as there is nothing that required enforcing, the street had been swept. This is an indirect tax! Part of the Borough's and City's fundraising, by enforcing city Bylaws that were designed to fine the population in very unethical and illegal ways, muh like the law concerning the cutting of weeds around city of Montreal trees in front of a business or property! TAX GRAB TAX GRAB TAX GRAB!

And for all the money they take, they sure do manage it poorly....especially in the Plateau Mont Royal Borough. This mismanagement of funds and poor upkeep of the borough was one of Marcel Tremblay's beefs with the Borough when we talked about it at the start of the month.

Maybe the City excecutive can whip the borough into shape....oh...wait....the borough mayoresse (fotopoulos) is on the executive....does she really need to be there though?
